Dryer fire causes evacuation of Pocomoke hotel

POCOMOKE CITY — A dryer fire resulted in the evacuation of the Holiday Inn Express hotel on Route 13 for nearly an hour on Sunday afternoon.

The Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Company said the hotel’s sprinkler system contained the fire to the dryer.It said all guests and hotel personnel were evacuated and firefighters used high capacity smoke ejectors because of smoke and steam throughout the first floor.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 45 minutes and damage was contained to the laundry room, fire company officials said.

LOVELAND - A mid-morning hotel fire forced the evacuation of a Best Western and left three people injured.

Loveland Fire Chief Mike Chard said the fire started shortly after 10 a.m. while a crew of workers was doing remodeling to the center part of the hotel.

He says the flammable liquid being used caught fire and spread to the back area. While the fire was contained quickly, heavy smoke spread through the hotel.

Upon arrival, 45 Loveland and Poudre Valley firefighters found the hotel staff working together to notify all of the residents. They say the evacuation was underway as staff members had not only made phone calls but also gone door to door to ensure the safety of the guests.

Chief Chard says the building has significant smoke damage and investigators are working on doing a more detailed assessment.

Three workers were injured in the blaze, one being transported to a local hospital and the other two being treated on scene for smoke inhalation.

One-alarm fire damages San Francisco hotel

Firefighters have controlled a one-alarm fire in a hotel in downtown San Francisco this evening.
The fire was reported at the Galleria Park Hotel at 191 Sutter St. at 5:48 p.m., according to Lt. Wood of the San Francisco Fire Department.

Guests were evacuated while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. The fire was under control by 6:42 p.m., Wood said, and guests were expected to be able to return to their rooms.

There were no injuries reported.

Fire damages Athens Best Western

The cause of a fire at a Best Western in Athens tonight is under investigation, fire officials said.

Fire Chief Cliff Christopher said someone at a nearby restaurant reported the fire around 8 p.m. at the Best Western Inn at U.S. 72 and Interstate 65.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames stretching for about 100 feet under the eaves of the roof of the two-story hotel, Christopher said.
