Dozens of female students injured in Iran school dorm fire

Fri. 14 Apr 2006

Tehran, Iran, Apr. 14 – Dozens of female university students from the central city of Isfahan were injured after their university dorm caught fire, the dean of Isfahan University said.

The incident which did not claim any lives occurred Thursday night at about 22.00 after the schools electricity grid caught fire due to an overload.

None of the girls were burned, Mohammad-Hossein Ramasht told the state-run news agency Fars on Friday.

Altogether 78 girls were taken to hospital, mostly due to breathing in too much smoke and some due to injuries after coming in contact with glass.

Eight of the students still remain in hospital.

Fire destroys hotel development
25 November 2005
Fire crews tackled the blaze through the night
Fire has destroyed a hotel under construction in Shrewsbury, three months before it was due to open.
At its height, 65 firefighters tackled the fire at The Sleep Inn on the Shrewsbury Business Park at Emstrey.

Fire crews worked overnight into Friday to control the blaze. It is not yet known how it started.

The development was being built for Choice Hotels as part of its Sleep Inn brand. The firm had planned to open it in February.

Fire officer John Wagstaff said it was one of the biggest incidents the service had had to tackle for some time.
