Fire hits hotel; campaign volunteers have to move
January 5, 2008
NASHUA, N.H.—At least 100 campaign volunteers, including 75 who traveled north from Arkansas to work for Hillary Rodham Clinton, have to find another place to stay after a three-alarm fire damaged their hotel on Saturday.

One firefighter was injured. No injuries were reported among hotel guests.

The campaign volunteers included about two dozen students and faculty from the University of South Florida, who were volunteering for several campaigns, and about 75 "Arkansas Travelers," volunteering for Clinton's campaign.

"As I was going out down the stairs I was in room 232 the smoke was pouring out of the ceiling," said Pat Glass of Little Rock, Ark.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Anderson said the flames broke out in the hotel's boiler room. Firefighters contained the flames to three rooms on the first and second floors, but there was extensive smoke and water damage to nearly three dozen other rooms.

Guests evacuated during Marriott hotel fire

DENVER - A fire inside a Marriott hotel broke out early Wednesday morning, forcing guests and staff to evacuate.

The Denver Fire Department says a heater inside one of the rooms sparked the blaze at the Marriott Tech Center on Syracuse Avenue at around 3 a.m.

At least eight people in seven rooms on the sixth floor were evacuated and relocated but no one was injured.

The fire department says the sprinklers inside the room stopped the fire from spreading. Crews had the fire officially out by 3:30 a.m. after doing a sweep and cleanup.

City Hotel Evacuated After Blaze
10 January, 2008
A hotel in the centre of Birmingham had to be evacuated after a fire on the seventh floor. The Travelodge in Broad Street was cleared of staff and guests after smoke began pouring along a corridor shortly before 8.30pm yesterday. Four fire appliances were sent to the scene following reports that people were trapped inside the eight-storey hotel. Broad Street was closed to traffic for about two hours and the hotel evacuated while firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out a search of the building. West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Dave Burton said they were able to give the all-clear after failing to find anyone left inside the smoke-filled hotel. The fire was confined to a linen cupboard in the corridor on the seventh floor. The corridor, and the one above, were both smoke- logged. Mr Burton said the cause of the blaze is still being investigated and fire investigation officers were at the scene carrying out checks. A man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation following a fire at a sheltered accommodation block at Beech Court, in Herrick Road, Saltley. The fire, which was discovered shortly after 7pm yesterday, was caused by food being left on a cooker in the kitchen of a one- bedroom flat in the three-storey block. The occupant was led to safety and treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
