Holiday Inn Sun Spree resort catches fire
PADRE ISLAND - Firefighters evacuated more than 150 guests from a hotel on Padre Island last night after a small fire sparked up in the walls.

At least three departments were called out to the Holiday Inn Sun-Spree Resort on Windward to track down the fire. Apparenltly, an electrical wire was at fault in a wall behind a game room on the bottom floor.

Guests had to stay outside for more than an hour and a half, while firefighters aired out the building.

"We had some elderly couple up there so we had the Flour Bluff volunteers go up there and locate them and brought them back down with their families," Abel Pulido, CCFD Battalian Chief, said. "But that's the only room we know had occupants that weren't evacuated."

Just one person got hurt when she tripped trying to evacuate the hotel, and just as firefighters were finishing up at the hotel, flames sparked up on a North Cabana Street home on the Island.

Firefighters said a guest bedroom mattress somehow caught on fire. It caused a lot of smoke to pour out of the garage and home. Firefighters used fans to air out the home, and no one was hurt.

Fire Forces Hotel Evacuation

POSTED: 7:27 am PDT October 1, 2007

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- A smoky fire forced the evacuation of a Kirkland hotel early Monday morning.

Three people were treated for smoke inhalation, firefighters said.

A fire alarm went off at about 12:30 a.m., forcing guests in their nightclothes to leave the hotel and walk to a nearby Denny's restaurant.

Smoke filled the first floor hallway of the Comfort Inn in the 12200 block of Northeast 124th Street when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters had trouble finding the source of the fire, but tracked it down.

"We believe we found the source of the fire ... is under the laundry room. We found charring in the crawl space," said Deputy Chief Jack Henderson of the Kirkland Fire Department.

Guests were later taken to another hotel.

Hotel evacuated after smoke scare

Comfort Inn was evacuated early this morning after reports of smoke at the 1001 E. 41st hotel.

Capt. Justin Kilian of the Hays Fire Department said five units were dispatched to the facility at 6:11 a.m. after receiving a report from the hotel staff of light smoke.

Guests were asked to exit the hotel while firefighters searched for the source of the smoke -- an overheating air conditioning unit located between the second and third floors, Kilian said. The unit was unplugged, and the hotel was vented.

Firefighters left the scene at 7 a.m.
